CG Mouthpiece Italy ebonite hard rubber mouthpieces are sculpted starting from solid bars of the best quality. The sculpting process is performed in compliance with the orientation of the extrusion fibres and, although it is very expensive with respect to other manufacturing methods, it provides the mouthpiece with great stability and unparalleled timbre richness.

The first, high-precision mechanical phase of the manufacturing process ensures the compliance with the essential parameters of the mouthpiece – length and planarity of the plane, development of the curve, symmetry of the rails, internal geometry.

All these parameters are carefully studied and assessed during the design process for each model. Then, the mouthpieces are carefully processed, hand finished and, after all parameters have been verified, tested: a “field” test that is essential for us, so each piece is played.

The shanks of the mouthpieces are made of bronze, the same material used for our metal mouthpieces, in order to transmit the vibrations to the instrument in the best possible way.

The Syracuse model for alto saxophone was designed bearing in mind the warm and full sound that is typical of vintage mouthpieces. It reminds the brightness of old Meyer Bros NY, with the addition of the typical projection of modern mouthpieces. Its roll-over baffle is not excessively high, designed to provide excellent projection without exceeding in brightness, thus maintaining the warm sound that is typical of the best ebonite mouthpieces. The Syracuse model for alto saxophone is available in two types: small chamber and medium chamber. They feature the same baffle, but the first one has flat window walls flowing into a small chamber, whereas the second one has slightly concave window walls flowing into a medium chamber. Although their timbre characteristics are very similar, the small chamber model is characterized by a smaller resistance – thus easier emission – and a tone colour slightly lighter and projected with respect to the medium chamber, which features a deeper tone that is typical of darker mouthpieces with lower projection. The high quality of ebonite ensures both models have a rich and harmonically complex sound, suitable for sessions as well as solos. Both models, S and M, if appropriately used by the player, have unparalleled sound power for an ebonite mouthpiece.
