About us & why choose our craft mouthpieces for saxophone

A hand-made product inspired to the tradition of the great craftsmen who have started a research path since the 1930s and 1940s, whose basics are still valid. This was our starting point, the study of the best mouthpieces we had: not a merely technical analysis, but a study that started with the most important part, not related to textbook technicalities. Our starting point was simply… playing.

The CG Mouthpiece Italy project was founded in December 2012 by Claudio Guida, Tiziano Camporelli and, in the initial phase of design, study and manufacturing of the first models, by Daniele Gardino, an engineer and excellent saxophonist. United by their passion for the sound of saxophone and its countless timbre potentials, they gave life to this ambitious and all-Italian project.

Claudio Guida, a professional musician and teacher, has always been attracted by the study and understanding of the possible variables in the geometry of mouthpieces: in the beginning as an observer and “final user” of the most diverse products available on the market of new and vintage products; then, he studied the technical aspects more thoroughly with his first homemade experiments on the mouthpieces, changing their geometries and operating on the balances that characterized them. All this was the basis for a more scientifically accurate research, started thanks to the collaboration with Tiziano Camporelli, owner of T.C.M., a leading company in precision mechanical processes. Tiziano’s three-decade experience in the field of high-precision mechanics combined with our mutual passion and curiosity for this world of sounds and was essential in expanding its research possibilities. His competency in the mechanical processes flow managed to combine with his infinite passion for sax, working on a research in the field of mouthpieces that is still ongoing with Claudio Guida.
